Finding socks that fit under AFOs has been a real pain. We wanted socks that fit her feet, with a stitched heel that fits around her heel, that are as breathable as possible, and that are tall enough to fit under the entirety of her braces. Socks that do ALL of that, apparently, do not exist. Our best fit for socks has been The Children’s Place socks, 12-24 month size, which she has been wearing for close to 2 years (ages 2-4). They are now too short and barely go to the top of her braces. I have considered stitching “tops” to the socks to elongate them…but haven’t gotten around to trying that yet. For now, we’ve accepted that the heel portion of the sock—since it never hits the heel anyway—needs to ride up far enough to stay OUT of the AFO hinge. As long as we can pull the sock up high enough to fold over the tops of her braces, they stay up good enough.
Recently, with the new changes in her AFOs, E's right foot in particular gets a little swollen from the pressure of her braces. Compression socks would help...but apparently they are either very rare or don't exist. I'm on the hunt!

My son also has CP and we have always used Smartknit seamless socks. He has never had any problems with skin breakdowns. They are expensive but are well worth the price of healthy feet. We are facing tendon lengthening surgery soon. He will have heel cords, hamstrings, and adductors done. Did your little girl have a Dorsal Rysotomy and then later a tendon lengthening? I would appreciate any information you can give me. Thanks Ande
